IRISH SEA MOSS

Chondrus Crispus, more commomly know as Irish Sea Moss is a red seaweed that grows along the coastlines of North America and Europe. Not to be confused with the warm water “tan” color sea moss, Gracilara. The cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean help the plant buildresiliency and its darker color is indicative of its higher nutritional content. It is called Irish Sea Moss because the people of Ireland survived off the plant in the 1800s during the potato famine.

It has a high fiber content which may help improve blood sugar control, help lower cholesterol, help lower blood pressure and reduce your risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.  This same high fiber content can help with satiety, which is a feeling of fullness in the stomach after eating. This effect may help with over eating and weight control.  Our digestive system is full of good and bad bacteria. The live bacteria in chondrus crispus can help replenish the good bacteria in our gut microbiome. A healthy gut can contribute to a strong immune system, higher energy levels, brain and heart health, improved mood, healthy sleep, effective digestion and potential prevention of some cancers and autoimmune diseases.

In my opinion, it is the IODINE that is the power behind the Irish Sea Moss. **Countless scientific studies have shown that having elevated counts counts of iodine in the body was advantageous when dealing with cancerous cells, fibrocystic breast disease, thyroid health, cardiovascular health, diabetes, immunity, pregnancy, neurodevelopment, menstrual disorders and reproductive failure, and fibromyalgia.ª**
